Hibino Raifu. Year 1864 (Genji 1) – August 27: Was born in the province of Kagoshima, in the neighborhood of Chiseki-cho, the oldest son of Hibino Michiyoshi. The father, Michiyoshi, was a swords forger in the castle Inuyama of the region of Owari.
Year 1866 (Keyou 2) – 2 years old: Hibino Michiyoshi and the son, Masakichi, proceed to Edo, passing by the road Nakayamadô.
Year 1868 (Meiji 1) – 4 years old: is received and raised by Eisuke Kawasaki, a candy dealer, in the city of Saitama.
Year 1870 (Meiji 3) – 6 years old: Works taking care of the children of the Negishi Family, in the province of Saitama.
Year 1873 (Meiji 6) – 9 years old: Works with the children of the Ibara Family, in the city of Yono, province of Saitama. In the ocasion, is taken care by the founder of the business Lion-Kobayashi Timijiro – and of Torajiro, Kobayashi’s older brother.
Year 1875 (Meiji 8) – 11 years old: starts working and living in the residence of the deputy Nakajima Yukitaka, as a student, in the neighborhood of Ushigome-cho.
Year 1876 (Meiji 9) – 12 years old: decides to become a kenjutsu practitioner. With the permission of the deputy, Nakajima leads off to training this martial art.
Year 1878 (Meiji 11) – 14 years old: invited by the chief of the town of Numasato, in the district of Oonuma, in the province of Saitama, starts to minister kenjutsu and trains daily in the dojo as an instructor, along with 100 practitioners.
Year 1879 (Meiji 12) – 15 years old: opens a dojo in Tokyo, in Yushima Tenshin, with the plaque “Shinto Ryu, Gekiken, Iaibatto Jutsi Shihan Hibino Masakashi”, “Shinto Ryu Shintokan”.
Year 1881 (Meiji 14) – 17 years old: opens another dojo in Tokyo, in a rented house in the neighborhood of Asakusabashi (whose owner is the founder of the business Lion, Tomijiro Kobayashi). In this period, leads off on a trainig trip , accompanied by two disciples.
Year 1883 (Meiji 16) – July 12th – 19 years old: fights against Teshuu Yamaoka, of the style Mutoou Ryu, in the dojo Shumpuukan, with whom starts practicing. Also gets to know Sensei Ooe Massamichi and the Sensei Nakayama Hiromichi.
Year 1888 (Meiji 21) – 24 years old: participates in the tournament of Gekiken, in the Kaiseki school (current university of Tokyo), in the presense of the inheritor Prince. In this event, he was invited to visit the residence of Sugiyama Naoya and, during the visit, the subject of how to revitalize the health and spirituality of the people comes up. He was introduced to the doctor in literature Shigeno Yasutsugu. In visit to the Dr. Shigeno, was advised to seek the path of Bunbu Nidô (two ways: martial and cultural). Realizes, in this moment, his mission of contibution for a new world.
Year 1890 (Meiji 23) – 26 years old: using traditional japanese Kenjutsu as base and the IaiDo, adds elements from Jujutsu, Karatê and japanese Mai dance, criating Shinto Ryu Kenbujutsu. Thus, incorporates the artistic aspect and presents it to the world.
Year 1891 (Meiji 24) – 27 years old: In the name of the dojo Yujimashintokan, publishes in Japan the unpublished work of Gekiken Kyooiku ron (Assay for education by Gekiken), work that becomes the main didactic material for the youth.
Year 1892 (Meiji 25) – 28 years old: amplifies his circle of friends, relating to official authorities from the Army and the Marine.
Year 1894 (Meiji 27) – November 12th – 30 years old: opens a dojo in the neighborhood of Sendagi in Komagome (Tokyo region). Altogether, there are 13 dojos in diverse locations, with aproximately 3000 practitioners.
Year 1896 (Meiji 29) – 32 years old: organizes a competition of physical activities amongst practitioners in Ueno neighborhood. From this time on, starts using the title Raifu, calling himself Hibino Raifu.
Year 1900 (Meiji 33) – 36 years old: Builds a new dojo with the support of the Marshal Tôgô Heihachiro, Marshal Ito Yuukô, Hatoyama Kazuo, Earl Oosumi, Colonel Nozu Michitsura, Ookura Kihachirou, Kobayashi Tomijiro and various other people. Names the dojo Shinto Ryu Shintokan.
Year 1902 (Meiji 35) – 38 years old: Makes a donation to the Budist Temple of Kiyomizudera, located in Ueno park.
Year 1904 (Meiji 37) – October 15th – 40 years old: Donates to the Shintoist temple of Yasukunijinjya. With the purpose of consoling the soul of the soldiers killed in the Japan-Russia war, donates a painting of 60cm width for 390cm length, with the inscription “Hail the Imperial Army”, demonstrating spirit of gratitude to those who lost their lives to their country.
Year 1905 (Meiji 38) – 41 years old: during a visit to the President of the People’s Newspaper, Tokutomi Sohô, with whom he kept a friendship, is attacked by the population unhappy with the diplomatic result o f the Japan-Russia war. The incident was known as the “Incident of Hibiya” (confrontation between the people and the police, attack to the Ministery of Interior and the Newspaper). It caused damage also to the newspaper’s head office. In this attack, Hibino Raifu defends Mr. Tokumi in the confrontation and gets hurt. After this, the friendship continued, having been registered that “the Text of the professor Sohô exists until today, thanks to Hibino Raifu Sensei.
Year 1907 (Meiji 40) – 43 years old: Makes a demonstration of Shinto Ryu in the residence of Earl Matsutaka Masayoshi (who was for two times the Minister in the epoch of Emperor Meiji), in the presence of the inheritor prince.
Year 1908 (Meiji 41) – 44 years old: Travels to Korea and makes a presentation of Shinto Ryu before the Prince of Korea. Receives the book Shisei Kashin.
Year 1909 (Meiji 42) – 45 years old: Receives from the General Police Commander, Ankaru Kanemichi, a certificate proving the years of dedication to the teaching of the Martial Art.
Year 1910 (Meiji 43) – 46 years old: Receives vouchers from the Police Departments from the provinces of Gunma, Nagano, Yamanashi, Fukui, Ishikawa and Toyama, each one testifying the dedication to the teaching of the Martial Art.
Year 1911 (Meiji 44) – 47 years old: Receives vouchers from the Police Departments from the provinces of Kagoshima and the District of Oosaka, testifying his dedication to the teaching of the Martial Art.
Year 1912 (Meiji 45) – 48 years old: The name Hibino Raifu is registered in the book of personality of Chûô Tsûshinsho.
Year 1913 (Taisho 2) – 49 years old: Makes a donation of a statue of Buda to the central Budist temple in the line of Sôtôshû, Eiheiji.
Year (Taisho 4) – June 12th – 51 years old: Kaiso Hibino Raifu makes a demonstration in the theater Meiji-za, celebrating 35 years of foundation.
Year 1916 (Taisho 5) – 52 years old: Makes a demonstration in the theater Ichimura-za, in Tokyo.
Year 1917 (Taisho 6) – 53 years old: Makes a demonstration in the theater Shintomi-za, in Tokyo.
Year 1922 (Taisho 11) – 58 years old: The Monk responsible for the Sôjiji Budist Temple, in the city of Tsurumi, grants the title of Osho (Monk) to Kaiso Hibino Raifu.
Year 1926 (Taisho 16) – June 25th – 63 years old: Kaiso Hibino Raifu passes away, in the city of Urawa, in the Yono neighborhood.
Year 1936 (Showa 11) – June 25th: Hibino Masaaki, son of Kaiso, adopts the title of Sokê.
Year 1948 (Showa 23) – January: Hibino Masaaki passes away.
